The gentle click of the falling dice, the slap of a card on the table, the mechanical clicks and whirs of the fruit machine, these have all been a part of the tradition of holidays in the South West of France for many a year, as the fine old buildings of the area's casinos bear testament.
In fact it is ONLY in the casinos that the one-armed bandit (as they were known before the advent of the silicon chip) can be found, under France's strict laws. Yes, you can gamble, but only in certain places.
But the casino is thriving and we understand that at least one more is on its way. We will add it to the map as soon as we get confirmation of it. The casino at Pau, right, has a wonderful view of the Pyrenees.
