The forests and hills of the Pyrenees provide an ideal environment for exploration by horse-back.
The local pony is the Pottok, a small horse that was once exported to Britain as pit ponies. Today the pottok provides rides for children at numerous country fairs.
There are a number of centres throughout the area where children learn to ride, and now some offer the facilities to tourists. Pony-trekking with the mountains as a dramatic backdrop is an unforgettable experience!
