PELOTTE is the fast-moving action sport beloved by the Basques and much played in the deep south west of France - and wherever there is a sizable community of people who can trace their roots to this area.

If you are reading this you are probably already an afficionado. But for those of you who are not, Pelotte is a game played between two or four players, against one or two walls, with a hard wooden racquet and a ball of a size mid-way between a tennis ball and a golf ball. It is not dissimilar to squash. The pelotte court or fronton is as important and familiar sight in every village as the church and local café.
We at TREASURES OF THE SOUTH WEST are proud to be able to offer racquets made by one of the top craftsmen in the area, Jean Araspin, who supplies equipment to many of the best players and teams in the Basque and the Béarn.

This equipment is for the Spanish and Basque version of the game, which is played with a solid rubber ball and uses heavier racquets or paletas than the Argentine version, which is played with a hollow, bouncier ball.

When ordering your paleta you need to specify the weight (except for the children's racquet). DISCOUNTS are available for orders of ten or more - consult us.

Model no 1 and 1B Price: No 1 75 FF; No 1B 90 FF
The classic paleta in solid beech with beech or mahogany facing.
The version 1B has extra reinforcing on the edges with solid beech, especially useful for players of the mur gauche version of the game when the racquet sometimes comes into contact with the wall.

WEIGHTS: 420 gms to 520 gms

Model No 2 Price: 105 FF
This paleta is a creation of Jean Araspin. Made in solid, reinforced beech with slits and dowels, this racquet has an extra suppleness reminiscent of the tennis racquet, which reduces the shock of the impact with the ball and gives a faster return.

WEIGHTS: 420 gms to 520 gms

Model No 3 Price: 90 FF
This paleta is made in solid beech with six transverse renforcing panels on the face. Similar to the classic model, but thicker and with a series of holes that serve to reduce the vibration on impact with the solid rubber ball.

WEIGHTS: 420 - 520 gms

Model No 5 Price: 130 FF
A solid beech paleta faced in beech, but thicker than the classic model. This racquet is used for those who play the game with the heavier solid leather ball.

WEIGHTS: 500 - 600 gms

Model No 6 Price: 45 FF
A solid beech paleta for children.

Model No 7 Price: 60 FF
A superior solid beech paleta for children faced with mahogany.
