Beaulieu was the beautiful place where King John founded a cisterian monastery in 1204. Although much of the Abbey was destroyed during the reign of Henry VIII, some buildings have survived: the cloister contains a recreated monastic herb garden, the refectory became the parish church, the Domus an exhibition about the Abbey.
In the grounds of Beaulieu estate, Palace House formely the great Gateshouse of Beaulieu Abbey has now been the home of the Montagu family since 1538.
Alongside all this "The national Motor Museum" founded in 1952 by Lord Montagu, takes you on a journey through a hundred years of motoring.
